Options

I've been seriously considering homeschooling my kids. I've been looking into it while I'm considering other reprocusions (time, social aspects). However, I'm coming away with more positives than negatives. At least, here in our area, there is a large population of homeschoolers and programs (field trips, activities, etc) set up for them. My only problem is the fact that I work three days a week, so my options are limited. Not to mention I'll be starting school in the fall...again... (that's a whole other post)

However, you think our public school options are bad? Read this article and you will thank your lucky 50 stars for the options we do have. Maybe I'll just get in line for a charter school...

I love homeschooling, but I'm a full time stay at home so I have plenty of time to do it. The school system has definitely gone into the toliet though.

I use to homeschool (2years). I LOVED it!

There are good things and bad things about both the public system and the private/home system. I learned that you have to decide based on the child. Some flourish in one setting and some the other.

Good luck with what ever choice you make! =)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my children I just feel bad that I have to be resoponibe for how they turn out. It is hard to make those kind of decisions for them. Good Luck.

Rachel, remember you can always speak with Teresa, she has homeschooled RJ this year, and he loves it and so do the girls. Donna so much so, that she keeps telling everyone she isn't going to kindergarten next year because she is already homeschooled.

I've been thinking about it too!! I'm a little scared to try but the online option seems almost doable... Keep posting about what you decide!! Love you :)

It is a scary step! I won't say it's all been easy, but definately worth it! You can do all of the schooling on your days off. RJ & I typically are done with school within 3-5 hrs. We started out doing a program that I found and he really liked it. Then I had doubts that I was teaching him what he needed to know, so we started the K-12 program. I like it and it was all free, but I found out that I was teaching him the same things with the other curriculum we had been using before.
Anyhow, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I think you would do great at it!

I'm thinking about it too! My only concern is that she might now have enough practice socializing, and I don't want her to grow up socially challenged!

Lluvia, on the socializing thing... My kids go everywhere I do. They socialize with other children and adults quite a bit. My son is in scouts and does that once a week. He also plays with other kids the same as he would if he was in public school. We schedule play dates. He can also carry on a conversation with adults and he's not nervous very often. Right now, he's discussing the Great Depression with his great Grandma. We go to the library, we've gone to town hall, the Sheriff's office (Daddy's work) and to the court house. You can also get together with other homeschooled children to play & socialize. Good luck with whatever decisions you decide to make :)
